ITALY: The activities of Italian companies in November 2007, ISTAT (National Institute of Statistics) shows, marked a decrease of 2.4% on an annual basis and by 0.9% compared to the previous month. In the period January-November 2007, the index has presented an increase of 0.8% compared to the same 11 months of the year before.
By analyzing the changes in individual sectors, in November 2007, there is an important growth in the sectors of electricity, gas and water (10% on an annual basis), transport (4.1%) and paper and publishing (+3%). The most marked decreases have focused on the areas of leather and footwear (-13.7%), oil refineries (-112.4%), wood and wood products (-8.1%) and other manufacturing industries (-7.9%).
In the Euro zone, in November the industrial production fell by 0.5% on a monthly basis (-0.3% in the EU), compared with 0.5% in October. On an annual basis, the industry marks an increase of 2.7% regarding the Euro zone and 2.6% in the EU-27.
The GIP (Gross Internal Product) slows. The data on industrial production in November is below expectations and may also affect the dynamic of 2007 GIP. The operators claim, questioned by Radiocor, according to which it is possible that the Italian growth of the end of the year may fall 1, 7% from 1, 8% previously estimated. This is also because of the data is expected in December, because of the drivers' strike.
