Philippe Richert, the minister of territorial collectivities and the president of Alsace and the president Fibois Alsace, Jean Maegey have signed on 4th of June a regional agreement of purposes to the benefit of wood and forest industry for 2011-2013.
In a press release, it is mentioned the fact that Alsatian forest takes over 38% the regional surface and 20.600 companies are working in this industry. This agreement proposes a plan of actions which contains 3 important directions: the sustainable resource management, supporting and consolidating the competitiveness of professionals from this industry and assuring new markets.
According to numbers, wood industry generates a turnover of 3,5 milliards euros in 2006 and 235.000 hectares from the region are certificated according PEFC label.
