The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), together with the Inspectorate of Forestry and Hunting (ITRSV) and the County Office for Land Registration will plant new forests on 500 hectares in Brasov.
They are currently charting the terrains that will be afforestated; they are alos hoping that the Ministry of Forestry will be involved by financing national programmes.
These funds are available to any owner of land (with a minimum area of 0.5 ha) farm, pasture, degraded or damaged forest.
So far, afforestations have been established in the following areas: Dragus, Soars, Ticus, as well as 32 hectares near the town of Rupea. The following areas are under "analysis": Palos,Cata, Budila, Bunesti, Apata and Ormenis.
Romsilva is in charge of this programme. At the end of the afforestation actions it will take over the lands for an established period of time; meanwhile, the land owners will receive an annual fee.
