About 2,5 millions of hectares have been certificated FSC. The objective is reaching 10 millions until 2012. Sapelli, wengé, azobé, ayou, bilinga there are exotic species of trees that characterizes the richness of the forest from Congo. There is a green surface which covers 2 millions km2, four times the surface of France. It is one of the 3 forestry massifs of the planet, with Amazonian and Indonesia, that plays an important part in the planet climate, fixing the CO2 and concentrating the rainfalls.
The Congo Republic (Brazzaville) covers a part of this huge forest and it wanted to use this thing in the favor of the environment and the economy. It has the biggest surface of tropical forest certificated in Central Africa. All the trees are being inventoried and exploited after following some rules. Every year, one plot is destined to being cut. The work will be in process for one year and “then, we will not touch it for over 30 years” Olivier Desmet has explained, from CIB.
