In present, about 6 millions of French people use firewood and the number is still increasing.
On ecological field, the firewood represents advantages and disadvantages. If the firewood comes from forestry sweepings, like the branches of the fallen trees, this one represents an ecological fuel. But, the firewood may be also involved in the air pollution by the issue of some fine particles and carbon monoxide. In this matter, Green Flame comes between by demanding the manufacturers of heating devices based on wood less pollution and more energetic performance.
In the beginning of January 2010, Green Flame will introduce a label, with a denotation system of energetic performance and environmental of those devices. That means 1 till 5 stars that answer the performed boilers and less pollutant. Only the devices with 4 and 5 stars will have the Green Flame label.
Also, a credit of 40% is assigned in order to replace the old boilers with less pollutant equipments.
