On 12th of January 2010, the representatives from the constructions field, from the wood industry and from the Federal Office of environment have inaugurated a pilot building from wood, being named “Woodstock”. Its structure is made by wood beech, homegrown, in order to protect the environment.
According to the third National Forestry Inventory, it was ascertain that the number of the hard wood is growing in the Swiss forests. It is expected that the wood of beech continue to develop.
The plan is following the next objective: using less this raw material and being more valued, with the purpose of creating a benefice. The wood must be used as a construction material, than as panels and to produce energy.
The Woodstock project has the target to prove that the wood of beech is useful for the buildings constructions and to show the potential of modern architecture, respecting the environment at the same time.
The Woodstock building can be seen in the Swissbau Hall.
