Official delegations from Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Surinam, Guyana and Venezuela met in the capital of the Brazilian state, Manaus, to discuss the faith of the south american forest of Ecuador.
The president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy reprezented the French Guyana durring the summit which focused on themes like the reduction of gas emisions.
Participants established that gas emisions would be reduced by 40% in the next decade. The heads of state of Brazil and France asked developed countries for funding that would help economically challenged states. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Nicolas Sarkozy claimed that poorer countries need fundins from greater economical powers in order to manage the climatic changes that are affecting the entire planet.
Brazil’s president declared in favour of slowing down afforestation in Amazonia’s forests, but at the expense of stronger countries. „We want to protect forests, but other countries should pay for this measures”, stated Lula da Silva during his opening speach.
A few months ago, the Brasilian government announced that the rythm of the afforestations has decreased this year and has reached the smallest rate ever recorded in the last 21 years of surveillance.
The summit of Manaus also targets an agreement between states of the Amanzon region in regard to the means of reduction of gas emissions with greenhouse effects. The agreement between the 9 countries will also be supported during the UNO conference held in december in Copenhagen. The prupose of the gathering is establishing new world agreements for managing climate changes.
