According to the results of a report made by the World Bank, auctions for the sale of timber held by the Regional Directorate of Forestry in Bulgaria lack of transparency, some auctions being arranged in advance; thus, certain companies are favored by the Bulgarian authotity.
Currently, auctions for wood raw materials are carried out under the supervision of the Forestry Agency.
The report also shows that Bulgaria is the only country in Europe where the state budget has not allocated additional funds to maintain forests.
