| After the first trimester of 2008, the foresty exploitation of the Saint Petersburg has raised with up to 33.9% and the production of paper and cellulose with 23.8%. Even if the wood industry has confrunted with a sudden profit downfall, a raise in production volume is expected. Unfortunately, it appears that the profit obtained from the wood industry will drop severely in the next years. For the first trimester of 2008, the cashings have raised with 26% in comparison to the same period of 2007, while the profit has dropped from 6.6% to 5.8% in the forestry domain and from 12% to 4.1% in the cellulose sector. Thus, the companies active in this industry are severly damaged.
This is also caused by the new laws adopted by DUMA in hope of mainly blocking the log export and reducing the prices from the national market.
