30.3% of the surface of Earth is covered by forests that equals approximately 4 billion hectares of forest or 40 million square kilometers. Two thirds are located in only 10 countries.
Every year almost 13 million hectares of forest are cut down. Of these 13 millions hectares, 6 are considered mature forests.
Forest regeneration and plantation are creating approximately 2.8 million hectares of young forests/year, cutting down the losses to 7.3 million he/ year, between 2000-2005.
The world’s forest loses per day are 200square kilometers which equals the territory of Panama, according to the U. N. Food and Agriculture Organization.
